Since there are so many pilots on the board, I figured there must be many AOPA member. For non-members, AOPA stands for Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
It turns out that the guy who won this years Cherokee 6 sweepstakes airplane lives in our area and I just went to the ceremony at our local airport where they gave him the airplane. So Phil Boyer was here and they gave him the keys to his new airplane. It was pretty cool.
I had heard that the the AOPA sweepstakes airplane came in on Friday and I was taxing my airplane back to my hangar when I saw it parked in the local FBO's hangar. I went over to the hangar and saw Steve Ells from the AOPA and got a close look at the airplane. Steve is really a nice guy and we spent 30 minutes talking airplanes and flying.
The guy who won is a Commander in the Coast Guard and is getting ready to retire. He spent his career flying C-130's and Helicopters. Seemed like a nice guy.
Here are some pictures from this morning.
