I don't have time to look at your links, but if you know the cars, how could you not recognize correct '73 RS flares? Do you know the visual differences between them and say, SC/Carrera flares? That would be the reason for the RS picture, which confused Bob and made him upset, I guess.
I'm not saying that it's necessarily a solid, un-crashed car. What I'm saying is that the photos are inconclusive. And if anything, they show very little visable rust. This looks like a '73 "E" coupe w/ RS flares in a weird but factory color and an incorrect engine, perfect RS clone starting point if solid and cheap enough. Maybe I missed the real horrible picture and someone can re-post it. This thread is way too long to wade through. All I saw was a spot of surface rust on a bare spot near the flare and a front shot that showed nothing(?) but a straight car. With the current values of early cars, solid cars w/ rusty pans are being resurrected all the time. The floors looked good in the photos. I was expecting way worse.
Dave @ TRE can help you with the flare question if you don't believe me, arguing on the web is pretty fruitless. I will say that plenty of the self-proclaimed early car experts here and on the "S registry" don't really know their ass from their ear lobe about the cars other than what the other effete concours sissies tell them. Ferry Porsche hated those people with a passion, and loved the customers who modified and raced their cars. I have forgotten more about the history of the company, (and particularly the man), than most sane people would ever want to know. And that was by the time I was 20, in the '70s. Call it OCD.
There is some deep Porsche knowledge around here, but it rarely belongs to the cry babies. I really don't care whether anyone buys this car, and the 24 pages baffles me. As well as the hurt feelings. But there is some WAGing going on, and the flare comment set off my alarm. They are better flares than I've seen on a lot of project cars of members here.
