I have a friend from college (graphic design major--graduated in December 2000) that still has not gotten a job. He will tolerate nothing less than walking right into a position as art director at a major advertising firm. Keep in mind he has done NOTHING for the past 7 years. He has a 7-year old bachelor's degree that has gone unused.

In his case, I blame his mother. He is one of seven children and the only boy. She treats him like he is the second coming of the Messiah. He can do no wrong. He couldn't figure out why everyone in college couldn't see his obvious superiority in every conceivable way. He couldn't understand why ANYONE would ever argue with him. He is always right.

I blame his mother, but his coddling in school certainly did nothing to damage his overinflated self esteem. I seriously think he may go through life accomplishing absolutely nothing and thinking he is the greatest person ever to live. I hope he does one day face reality, but I don't have much hope.
