That is a common symptom of valve guide and/or seal wear. You want to be sure that it's not just oil dripping down onto the exhaust from the valve cover area. If your consumption hasn't gone up from what you described then you aren't too bad yet. What happens is that when the car is hot and idling the pistons and cylinders pull a vacuum on the valve guides drawing oil past them and into the combustion chamber.

You could have the valve guides checked for wear and try replacing the seals. The fix for worn guides is a top end overhaul/valvejob.
