I don't know what you're making, or what the overseas supplier is providing, but you may want to keep in touch with your (former?) customer. It is not uncommon for people to eventually realize that "cheaper" is not always the "least expensive."
If someone else can provide a product at "barely above commodity material costs" -- even considering the labor differences for overseas manufacture -- you have to expect there could be some quality differences.
