If someone else can provide a product at "barely above commodity material costs" -- even considering the labor differences for overseas manufacture -- you have to expect there could be some quality differences.

You are spot on, they actually told me in the meeting that they are not getting quality out of China and we may get it all back. But I won't make it that long and I told them so. It's not a good deal for them no matter what they do. They built entire plants over there but the results are so poor they are considering walking away.
