This weeks find

Well this is this weeks auction find...A nearly mint condition Springfield NRA Sporter in 30/06 that was sold in August of 1925. This rifle will letter to the SRS.

After the Doughboys returned from WW1 they wanted bolt action rifles to hunt with as they had become fond of them during the war. As no American manufacturer was producing them at the time Springfield Aresnal began using their Springfield 1903 Action to creat Sporters for the public. Springfield was followed by other custom Gun Makers such as Sedgley, Griffin & Howe, AO Neidner, Hoffman Arms and RG Owen in making BA Sporters for the public.

These rifles were produced from the early 1920s to the early 1930s when comapnies such as Winchester and Remington started producing BA rifles that were affordable. A total of @ 5000 of these rifles were produced during that time. They were especially noted for their accuracy, even surpassing the NM 03s in that department.
