Oh, bull*****. Our government is here to protect our individual rights; how in the hell are personally owned firearms supposed to do that? Our government, in its wisdom, grants us the rights we deserve; no more, no less. We should all be happy with that and just trust them to do the job they have sworn to do; to look out for our best interests and to legislate accordingly.
Our government, unfortunately, spends far too much time and resources on this gun issue. Time and resources better spent on more important issues, like hunger, poverty, and education. If it wasn't for you bunch of stubborn, ass hole redneck gun owners clinging to some long-obsolete notions of self-reliance, chivalry, and whatever other fantasies you hold, they could get on with more important stuff. Just turn them in and be done with it. It's for the greater good.

wait...wait wait... Our government has ZERO RIGHTS nor any legitimacy that WE as a people do not grant them. Their power comes from us, not ours from them. Regardless of the gun issue( as I respect your right to disagree with gun ownership) our Constitution is flatly and clearly designed to create a government of the people, for the people and by the people. It matters not that there are a significant number of ignorant people. This was understood then, as it is now.
However separation of church and state, taxation without representation, right to a trial by ones peers, innocent until proven guilty...THESE are powers very much worth both fighting and dieing for, by any means. The moment that WE The People relinquish those rights, is the day we deserve to be, and most definitely will be, enslaved by facists, communists or thoecratic manarchies.

BULL****!!!
We are here to force our government to obey the Constitution of The United States of America. If you don't believe me ask Richard Nixon and his chronies. Ask our last three Presidents...Oh wait...don't ask them, because left unabated by the people, they would have violated every facet of our Constitution. There is not now, nor has there been, nor ever will there be, a trustworthy government.
"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
It may be valid to argue that the people do not sufficiently appreciate these words, but by the very words themselves; the roots of which stem from the Magna Carta, and it' roots from Ancient Greece and The Roman Empire; are as valid as the continued existance of civilized society itself.
WE the POEPLE have decided and provide this, not THEY the Government. WE put them there to be used as tools for us to maintain our society. Their power comes directly from us...and I would argue that their weakness does as well. When we don't care they go undirected. The noise of today comes from the fringes, as the rest just drone along, but NEVER FORGET, there are many of us who continue, long out of uniform, to stand guard over those brave and vital words.
To this day I NEVER ONCE PLEDGED to serve my government, as a Marine. I swore to protect and defend the Constitution of The United States of America. I swore to die to protect those rights against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is now and will always be my belief, that the most dangerous enemies will always be domestic, and they will come disguised as patriots and protectors. Does that sound paradoxical...if so then now you are starting to understand the responsiblity of THE PEOPLE. More importantly, you understand why the final arbitor of liberty must also ALWAYS be the people.
It is FAR from perfect, but it is ours and it provides ample space for us all. It is up to us to make it work, never is it up to the government.
BTW the red neck comment really didn't make you look too good. By using it you do nothing more than fuel their ignorant fire against the "elitist liberal mamma's boys".
