Full Throttle when starting...
I know you’re all busy…
I’ll give you the basics…
‘76 914 2.0, Stock D-jet…160K miles. I have had the car for 2 years.
Never had issues except hot starting about a year ago…replaced the CHT (temp 2). That fixed it for the most part…still does it from time to time.
The other day, I washed, drove x2, and put to bed. Next day, turns over but no start. Fuel pump runs, injectors click, smell fuel (badly), no leaks…nothing. Bypassed the CHT by grounding to the battery and it starts...whew...problem solved. However, during this week I think I may have dumped like a gallon of gas in the intake from starting it and testing things over and over...I know, I know...rookie. Anyway, the car starts great, but it's at full throttle..like red line. I've checked the linkage and all is ok. Why is it starting at full throttle? I mean, I can't keep it on b/c it's redlining. I can't seem to find where the throttle would be stuck...I never touched the linkage or throttle body. One thought I had was that once the gas in the intake was burned, it would be ok but I'm not sure.
Any ideas?
Thanks all…love the site.
Take care,
Nec
