I had a loan through Cap One on my old 968. When I sold the car the buyer sent a check to Cap One for the outstanding balance on the loan and a check to me for the rest.

When you pay off a CapOne loan it takes longer to clear a personal check vs. a bank check. With my 968 it took 14 days to get the lien release...the buyer sent them a bank check. When we paid off my wife's VW with a personal check it took a month to get the lien release.

May sure that the buyer writes the loan number on the check. You don't want to have him/her pay off the wrong loan...the customer service rep I talked to said that this happens from time to time.
