I think you need to bone up on the origin of words...
Where does the definition I posted misdefine(?) the concept?
Granted, there are belief systems (Bhuddism is one) which actually do not have a god or gods and could be considered athiestic if taken in the modern sense, but the original meaning of the word is "without (or in some definitions against) god(s)". Not to be confused with agnosticism (uncertain or I do not know when it comes to god(s).
Point is that there are "athiests" that ar as militant in their beliefs as some "believers" are. When this happens, the fur flies.
