Ed, makes sense to me. I wish I had steam cleaned the engine and underside on this British Exxon Valdez oil spill before I pulled the engine, it would have been a lot nicer to work on. I did clean the crap out of the engine compartment while I had it out.
The engine is very smooth, the trannie shifted a little stiff, but with newer synchros (new are no longer made, so good used ones were stuck in) it shifted much better after a mile or two of running in.
Good luck on the rebuild. BTW, Ed, I noticed that you have an 84 Targa as well. Mine is metallic platinum with a tail and is an ROW. I'll take some pics when I go to Cambria this weekend and post them on the "Ultimate Targa" thread. I don't have any good pics of the Targa, and need to take some.
