Yeah, what makes these cars so interesting to me is the constant passing of the different classes. Those GT drivers really have to be on their toes to move over just right. Of course, some nasty shunts have occurred when someone zigs when the car coming up expected a jag. A little room with some more passing zones make for better and safer racing.
They used to race this series at Phoenix and that was so stupid. It was a go-kart track for these cars. The whole course is contained with in the mile oval. Length is something similar to St Pete, but too tight.
The LMP 1 and 2 cars were on the steering bumps in the hairpin at LB. The GT's were a lot better in the tight stuff. Eventually, the Porsche GT 3 (it might have been Burgmeister) bumped Pirro's Audi turning him into the pylon. That corner could be redesigned with a slightly larger radius and not hurt a thing, IMHO. I suppose the similarity to the hairpin at Monaco is not lost on many.
