I have some el-cheapo tiles too. I think mine were like 19 cents a piece - self adhesive vinyl. Just today i actually got around to replacing some of the damaged tiles after 6 years of abuse.
The plastic tiles look nice, but I too would like to know how they actually hold up to spills, jacks and stands, etc.
I will probably redo mine next year with an industrial epoxy, but I hate to give up the checkerboard pattern I have now.
