I suspect you were watching this on DVD. How do I know this? Because you have young kids and I remember my wife and I seldom went out to watch adult-themed movies when our kids were that age.
In your home theater, there's more opportunity to stop playback and discuss the inconsistencies with your 2 year old compared to being a part of the theater experience. If I said "WTF" numerous times in a crowded theater, besides the elbow jabs from the spouse, I'd get my large popcorn tub, cheese nachos, Milk Duds and 44 oz. soda confiscated by the rude folks loudly conversing in the seats behind us. In this environment, there are no time outs. When the next plot hole appears, the last one fades to black.
