Actually, the later gauges with no numbers do have numbers. In a tiny font at the edgemost end of the marks there are the numbers 60, 90, 120, and 150 which are degrees in Celcius. If you want a different face, you wouldn't need a new sender, just a face with more graduations between the 4 main lines.
The original (newer not older) gauges work fine, they just don't have as many graduations and big numbers. The old gauges which are the upgrade are just another option for someone who's looking for a more accurate reading (reading, not gauge).
Getting a different gauge face custom made might be pricey anyway.
