A factory limited slip can be set at a number of different locking rates. I think it's 40%, 60% or 80%. It could be that yours is set at 60 or 80, which really doesn't make sense if you're primarily driving your car on the street.
Someone here might have a way to determine which setting yours is at without having to open anything up.
