I have Ferodo street pads ("DS" compound I think?) on my 911 -- very good for hard street use. Minimal dust (almost none) and virtually no squeal. They survived a recent DE at Willow Springs just fine.
On the 914, I have Porterfield R4 carbon-kevlar race pads. They stop like crazy, but are noisier than hell -- even with backing pads and filed edges -- and dust a fair amount too. But that is my canyon carving/track/autox car, so the incredible stopping capability and heat/fade resistance is top priority. It takes 1 or 2 stops to get up to temperature, and after that they are a little 'grabby' but not bad to modulate after a little practice.
