Using your equation YOU would be an alcoholic since it was ALEC BALDWIN!!! that was verbally abusing his daughter!
Seriously, being an alcoholic has NOTHING to do with smarts, or will....at least not much. For some who are prone to it (like ME but I'm not an alcoholic) it can be extremely difficult to overcome, even impossible. BOTH my grandfathers were severaly alcoholic, in fact it killed them both. My father had times when he struggled with it as a young man but eventually stopped drinking altogether. I KNOW in my bones that if I allowed myself to do much drinking at all, I could easily become dependant. [/QUOTE]
Dan,
It's good you recognise the potential in your life. I didn't and I almost lost my family. I ended up in handcuffs.
If it wasn't for my daughter I would hate to think where my life would be right now, if I would be alive at all.
I havn't touched a drop in over 3 years and I will never again drink a single shot.
I will never forget the look on the face of a 14 year old girl, when she caled the police on me............my little girl. The best thing she ever did, and I made a promise to her to remain sober.
Come to think about it she is the reason I quit smoking. We made a deal, she would quit if I did. we are both smoke free.
