Thank god your family has never been ripped apart by someone that is a drug addict or alcoholic.
My fathers family was ruined by my grandfather and his violent drinking binges. My grandmother in his old age bacame an alcoholic too and ceased to function as a person.
My sis in law is a drug addict that is sneaky as can be and will steal from any one of us in a heartbeat. My wifes wallet disapeared a few years ago never to be found. Total PITA having to cancel CC's and get new SS card DL etc...
My father pulled me aside when I was a teen and explained the tendency of my family to be dependent. He was a drug addict and had a bout with drinking too. I have never gone down that path but my personality is a lot different that them. I refuse to let anything or anyone own me. It was apparent when I was young when cousins would try to blackmail me with a dirty secret from school, rather than be blackmailed I would go to my parents and spill the secret just to kill the blackmailing.
I pray no one close to you ever has an issue with an addiction. It takes a lot of compassion and understanding to deal with it.
