If you want to play, you have to pay. $40K canadian is about what today.. $32k USD? It would be hard to find an '89 for that money. A pre G50 could be found for that money. Many turbos have been molested for the joy of the boost bong. The more boost you want, the less reliable you get. More than about 350hp usually means needing a twin plug head ($$$$) bigger fuel injectors, larger intercooler etc and NONE of that is cheap stuff.
A 3.6 stuffed in a narrow body car, or even one with turbo flares, would be a much more reliable car, overall, imho.
