You have made an error Stuart. You mean there is no proof so you are an agnostic, not an atheist. An atheist has full faith that there is no God, not based only on science, but solid belief. An agnostic correctly surmises there is no empirical proof to His existence or non existence. The Agnostic will change his belief upon convincing evidence.
The atheist has a stake in the outcome and spins all data toward his presupposition, whereas the agnostic is the rational wait and see.
