Since crud from the inside of a deteriorating tank goes directly into your engine without seeing the filter, I would just replace your tank. Mine was replaced on my 73.5T a few years ago with a Stainless Steel tank. I took it out this winter, cleaned it up and sprayed it with clear coat. Looks very nice and it has held up well. The inside was pristine. I will post some pics later.

I think you can buy a new one from our host.
