Your friend sounds like he is on the opposite end of the spectrum, and you can easily find a balance somewhere in the middle imo. With you profession (you mentioned it in another thread some time back), you have options and I suspect that some day you're going to look back and think "Why didn't I do it sooner?" Good luck!
