Those marketing types! Even the Cessna 337, which had one engine pushing and one pulling, required a multi rating.
If one of those Thielert 1,7 diesels were to fail below VMC a multi ticket wouldn't just be legally required, it would mean the difference between crashing right side up or inverted. One of the things they teach you when you get your multi ticket is how to ensure the former.
