The M3's raison d'etre is as a daily driver! A high performance car that you can still commute in and schlep the family around. The purposes you're describing are exactly what it is made for, and there are few that would argue that it's not good at it. Get the M3 already.
I see the same thing on BMW boards - guys that buy an M3 for weekend/summer-only driving; they should be driving 911s (or Z4Ms).
