had the nicking of reverse problem also 10 years ago, also thought worn bushing replaced them all no improvement they also looked pretty good, so i looked elsewhere, adjusted the shifting rod in the back seat took many tries till i got it right now no nicking of reverse and i've never had to pause to upshift or downshift. Now in regards to double clutching I drove a honda 1300 miles from atlanta to kansas city with a slutch that would not disengage a spring on the clutch plate and broken and wedged in the pressure plate and on that car upshifting is about 4500 rpm slide it into the next higher gear and when downshifting slip it out of gear and in neutral rev your motor till the imput shaft matchs the speed of the lower gear. Hense the term double clutching as you are adjusting your imput shaft rpms to match the gear speads of your lower gear, you are moving the clutch petal in twice for the downshift. I believe in very old cars before the sycro this was always done. I still practice this and i believe it saves the life of the sycros also sounds real good. In my 73t i really only have to double clutch to go to 1st when I'm moving to get into the powerband if i so desire. Got off the subject, read a stupid thread with some comments that made me think of teaching 16yr old to drive a stic, just adjust the shifting rod in the tunnel. takes a few tries but worked for me. not a loose nut just, the two rods are matched wrong just keep moving the connection till it works and dosn't nick reverse.
