I have to completely agree. I rebuilt my 915, installed bronze bushings in the coupler and it shifts fast without thinking about anything. The 1-2 shift takes slightly more effort but I don't "wait" or "pause" at all. No learning necessary.
I think the biggest problem is a variety of things added up. Worn tranny, worn bushings, worn shifter, old motor mounts, improper adjustment. Add it all up on top of an old design and you get lousy shifting. Fix ALL of it and they shift perfectly fine (but not great)
