Right on. I remember working at a couple Porsche dealerships when these cars were new, and the shifting was very deliberate, but not a problem or annoyance at all. When I got my SC, it shifted poorly. A new clutch and new bushings and adjustments made it just fine. I think a lot of people overlook the importance of proper adjustment and just get it to work rather than making it just right.

When comparing to other cars, i.e. Miata, M3's, etc, remember those type of vehicles basically have the shift lever sticking out the top of the tranny with a knob on it. The 911 tranny is in the rear and the required 6' rod and accompanying levers and bushings leave an opportunity for misalignment and wear at each junction. Get it right, and it works very well. It's worth the effort.
