Your mirror can be fixed. Try Clarks Garage, there's an article with pictures of how to do it:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/

Basically, the mirror has to be removed from the car to fix. There is a spring-loaded bolt that holds the mirror to the base. However, there are wires running thru the middle of the bolt so the wires must be disconnected first.

When I fixed my mirror, I could not figure out how to remove the wires from the mirror side so I ended up taking off the door panel and disconnecting the wires from the inside of the door - this is more work but can be done this way. Inside the mirror itself, there is a round plug with wires - if you can figure out how to get those wires disconnected without breaking them, that is the easiest way to go.

Once you get the wires disconnected and the mirror (including the base) removed, you will need a 12 point socket to tighten that spring loaded bolt. It's under a lot of pressure so be prepared to spend some time on this. I had to use my entire weight (200 lbs) on that bolt to get it to start threading.

After that, just re-connect the wires and install.

Clarks Garage explains it very well and has photos too. The link takes you to the main page - then go to Garage Shop Manual - then Mirrors.
