Funny story; My wife's uncle is rich. Half a billion $ or more. Nice guy. My wife was poor most of her early life. Despite being an honor student, she barely made it through college because she had no money. She lived on $10/week food budget. When we were married, our first 7 years together we were flat broke. We never got any assistance from her uncle. We never asked, either. The rich uncle has two essentially useless sons and a half dozen relatives who believe they will all be rich beyond measure when the old man dies.
Fast forward many years. The rich uncle and I are sharing a few bottles of wine at one of his homes. He decides to tell me what his plans are for his "estate" after he dies. There will be a very modest trust fund for his sons. Just enough to provide food and shelter. The bulk of his estate will go into a charitable foundation that will build libraries, rural health facilities and college scholarships for the truly needy. The rest of the family get nothing. Not a dime. No one in the family besides my wife and I know about his plans. I wouldn't dare spoil the surprise.
