Hankook R-S2 Z212 tires are great tires - very high grip levels and inexpensive. PatrickB has them on his Carrera. Another tire is the Falken Azenis RT-615. Possible even better grip than the Hankook and almost as inexpensive. I have these on my 996 and love them.
Both of these tires are rank as probably the best gripping non-R compound tires available.
