Guess what; you're already paying for a significant part of the universal health insurance you despise just with the added costs of private insurance overhead (~30% - there's a lot of forms to fill out and process and insurance co. profits to pay), deferred preventive care, the inefficient use of emergency room resources and other unneeded costs. The poor do not keep their sickness to themselves; read up on the influenza outbreak of WWI. Public health is a public issue.
