Mine does the same thing. Bounces on the 3, but not all the way up to 5 at an idle, just a slight bounce, maybe 3.5. You'll have more oil prusure under a load. Sounds like it is normal to me. Unless I have some crazy problem too! I have heard of people going as low as 2 and 1 at idle.
