my original appt with JW Tuesday, was to replace the push-rod tube seals and the oil cooler seals. when he did the push-rod seals, it also got a valve adjustment. that seams to have solved my oil leaks and smoking. little residual left but most burned off on the drive home.

so after JW replaced the seals he was able to help me out with a minor tune up. the timing was retarded a little. so we fixed that. i don't have a timing light so i was going kind of blind on finishing my part of the tune up.(#1 on my birthday wish list)

found that some of my connections were on backward too. some of those were like that from the day i had the car and others that we could disconnect to make it run a little better.

there are some vacuum hoses that i can disconnect too. seems in 73 the EPA had already put some limits on the car that i can override that aren't needed. will leave them connected for now but glad to know i can make some mods if i want. also learned of a way i can deflect some of the unused heat off the HE's away from my fuel pump. another wonderful update Porsche made after 73


but for now it is running much happier. need to get in a good hard drive to make sure all is well. but i might skip the desert for a while bummer having a targa that doesn't like hot weather.

will think about a Petronix ignition down the road but for know I'll stick with something i can work on myself.

thanks to all who helped me out on the side of the road...you guys make these drive all worth while...maybe one of these years i can get past the first day.
