Removing the existing OEM shift shaft...

With the seats removed and basically everything removed from the column (eBrake/heater controls, front console etc...) I had access. I worked the shaft out thru the hole of the eBrake (working it in the direction of the rear seats). I had to put a little pressure on it (felt it flex against the opening, but not much) and rotated it a few different ways. Note: I DID NOT FORCE IT!!!

I was as surprised as anyone... I was preparing to leave it and strap it down.
