Jim brings up a good point. Most ladies are better with a "wheel gun" over a autoloader, aka automatic. Once they get used to shooting then they can use whatever they wish but starting out might be easier.

A good .357 revolver loaded with .38 specials is a good and cheap way to shoot. Course a .22 is even better then step up when ready.
