Speeds vary greatly by carrier and location. If you want to see exactly what you have, go to
www.dslreports.com/mspeed . It is optimized for celluar networks.
For what ever reason, AT&T has been slow to deploy their 3G solution on the west coast. It will be interesting to see how fast they get their "improved" EDGE software / hardware in place and how much it really helps. Still the biggest issue I have with AT&T is the latency on DNS lookups. It makes even a great connection feel dog slow.
