The timming setting would depend on the induction system used and the cam you have. If the cam is not stock and the engine uses carbs than someting like 34 to 36 degrees total might be best. If it were mine, I would find TDC on compression and then remove the fan and mark it every 5 degrees all the way around with small notches than can be seen through the timming hole. I'd paint TDC red, every 10 degrees yellow and all the rest white and then time it. Good luck.
