I think what that was showing was a regular, run-of-the-mill oil leak.
I had a bright idea after my last post: buy a couple jugs of Dextron/Mercon and see if I can spot the leak in real time.
So, I start pouring in the tranny fluid. After about a quart, I hear a "plat-plat-plat" on the ground. So I look underneath the car...
Yup, despite my initial thoughts, the leak is definitely coming from the rear of the transmission. I guess that explains the smoke from the exhaust (I just figured it was blowback)...

Would that be the tail seal that Matt mentioned?
