There were two different A/C setups, by VPC and DPD. Both used up space under the dashboard for the vents/controls/etc. That took up some of the space where the center console went, so some modifications had to be done to the console.

The DPD setup put the gauges in closer together but then angled them toward the driver. The VPC setup put them in "staggered", with the top and bottom gauges offset to the left and the middle gauge offset to the right.
