Jim, I think that most people wouldn't really go along with your reasoning. All holidays have been hijacked, and the meaning is determined by the individual. There is no "universal" or singular meaning for a holiday.
Having a tree and exchanging presents is NOT a Christian celebration. Going to church on the 25th is. It is a little dogmatic to say that if one take part in any traditions, even if they are secular, that they are "partaking" from a Christian stance.
