YES they did, precisely and in clear language, intend to exclude Christianity and ANY other religion from "State" affairs -> which includes public schools!

From Jefferson's writings (I have only studied him the most) he clearly intended for government, despite it's founding on Judeo-Christian beliefs, to allow the free practice of any religion in America and that no person would be judged, or that person's position in society be diminished, by the government for such beliefs. BUT, that church and state remain separate. This we can be certain, IMO.

I would have to agree with you on the mess in schools these days. There are many unfortunate things happening, IMO, regarding this newfound favoritism of Islam in schools. This is exactly the problem folks like Jefferson were worried about.

In this case, these same folks who quote Jefferson as wanting to keep church and state separate are teaching Islam in school. Neither Islam, nor Christianity nor any other religions belong in public schools. That's what the founding fathers were afraid of and tried to protect against.

Nothing wrong with folks paying to take religious classes in college or going to religious private schools.

In this regard, we can agree. I think the biggest problem in public schools is the NEA, but that's another thread.

Best,

Kurt
