I admire Nugent for showing that clean and sober rock and roll isn't a contradiction in terms, but this rant is a typical pile of right-wing b.s. He's against people ruining themselves through drug abuse...that's great, so are the vast majority of liberals.
Nugent has a warped sense of what really is destroying lives in America today. Nugent doesn't have a problem with citizens possessing guns, but evidently does have a problem with citizens possessing, say, cannabis. I am not a gun control advocate, but compare the number of people in America killed by handguns with the number killed by reefer, and I think it will be clear which of the two is really more dangerous.
Since he pines to be named an "honorary DEA agent" (like Elvis!), we can assume he supports the government's insane "war on drugs" which has destroyed far more lives than drugs themselves ever have (think about it...what would you choose - a coke habit you need to kick, or a felony conviction and a 10-year prison term?). If Nugent is really concerned about the "exponential expansion of government and taxes", as he claims to be, he should be attacking the vast prison apparatus the government has set up to incarcerate people for "drug offences", instead of beating long-dead 60's cultural horses. But then, expounding true anti-government views like that wouldn't get his rants published in the Wall Street Journal...
Oh, and where was Nugent when Rush Limbaugh got busted for Oxycontin (which is more potent than herion)? I must have missed his
outraged missive blaming the addled moral condition of conservative radio talk show hosts on a culture of laxity and permissiveness that pervaded, say, the Young Republicans in the 1970s.
