prior to '81 all cars were stamped at the factory with a serial # with it's appropriate designation #s ie
9288100034 for a RoW
9288200034 for US distribution
after '81 (introduction of universal 17 digit vin's) all cars were chassis stamped as RoW, then VINed according to destination (hence 2 diff #'s)
interesting enough, due to the early vin sequence, there are "twins" out there
