Termite swarms are pretty enormous. You will know if you have an infestation. They swarm to the light at night so you should be able to see them flying in a lighted room. Or just go up in your attic in the late afternoon. You will see hundreds to thousands of them flying around if you have an issue.

Do you have any cellulose mulch around your house? If so, pull it away from the foundation, treat the soil around the barrier of the house, replace mulch with non cellulose mulch (rubber), and make it a routine to walk around the house looking for tunnels. I have a contract with Terminix because they repair any damage I sustain while with them. Its $300 a year, but termites are no joke here.
