Backfire and stall
I have a '74 911 with stock 2.7 and CIS. I've owned the car for a couple of years I don't drive it a lot but I try to get it on the road at least once a week. Up until today it has run perfectly. The weather is beautiful so I decided to take run her to the golf course. After a little warm up she's pulling strongly up a fairly steep hill, halfway up the hill she bucks once. Remainder of the trip is fine, 10 miles. After playing the car starts fine and I'm on my way. Half a mile down the road I get a big backfire and the engine quits-wtf. I get out check everything in the engine bay and everything looks ok. I can here the CIS running with the key on. After 5 min car starts and sounds fine. Another half mile same thing, back fire and engine quits. I get out again lift the metering plate, won't start. Play with this wiggle that and after 15 min car starts, remainder of the trip home is uneventful although its like waiting for the other shoe to drop. When the engine quit it was like some turned the key off. Plenty of juice in the battery, engine spun like a mother. I haven't replaced any of the fuel filters- yet - that's the first thing I'll do , any other suggestions out there. Thanks.
