That is the same car I saw at the Mid-Ohio Vintage Grand Prix on July 1. I saw that it was for sale, but I did not realize it was a replica. It sure looked good -- it is a very long way from a the 917-replica kit cars of the 70s.
It was parked next to a transporter with several vintage racers -- it appeared to be an "arrive & drive" outfit. The 917 did not go on the track the day I was there.
I thought it was odd that it had a license plate. Someone mentioned the shift knob -- I noticed that too. I think they were wooden on the real cars.
I also noticed a small crack -- a few inches, maybe -- on the top of the left front fender, for what it is worth.
I was all excited to see a 917, but now I realize I didn't see a real one. I guess I have to wait for the Rennsport Reunion III.
Oh well...it was still a way cool car.
