I figured I would ask the Pelican brain trust for some recommendations on a little quandary of mine: Where can I go to learn more about Project Management and Business Analysis? I get brochures from training companies all the time, but I don't really know who is reputable/worthwhile and who is not. Does anyone here have any input on training?
Background:
I've been offered a Senior Solutions Architect position at a really exciting Financial Services company.
This is a great opportunity for me; I'll be leading technology strategy and answering directly to the CTO. I'm pumped that they've extended me the offer.
They're also taking a chance on me... I'm uniquely suited to the position based on some pertinent startup background, but I'm young for the position and also light in two areas: Business Analysis and Project Management.
I've done some of both over the last 3-4 years, but it's been in a startup/get it done environment, so I was teaching myself as I went. I got no formal training, but did my best to follow established methodologies.
These new guys operate more like a consultancy, very "by the book." I was forthcoming that I am light in the Business Analysis and Project Management areas, and so the offer includes a designated education budget so that I can take some courses to beef up my formal learning. I'm slated to become proficient in 3-6 months
