jeffrey, the knob controls the frequency of the compressor clutch engagement. I found that the best ac cooling occurs on even freeway cruising at about 70mph because the compressor is spinning at about 2500 rpm and the motor is not throwing out much heat.
I wonder if you have dirty evaporator fins? I get 42F vent temps on a 80-85F dergree day.
